The Concept
Every month the Theme of the Month Team (TMT) announces a new theme for the current month (Theme of the Month or ToM). The theme is generally a wide topic which
allows for many interpretations. The more creative you are with your interpretation, the better. The intent is to get you out with your camera or to have you
look at images in your archives in a new way. The most important thing is to have fun with it and get creative.
Theme Announcement and Deadline
New themes are usually announced on the 1st of the month - Go to Themes >> Theme of the Month >> The Themes at the top of the Home Page.
The announcement includes a short description and some suggestions to get your creative juices flowing. The theme closes on the last day of each month.
Contributions - Images and Notes
There is no limit to the number of contributions you can make to the theme over the course of the relevant month, nor is there any obligation to enter the
theme at all if you don't wish to. TMT asks that you write a note with each post explaining why you chose your image and what your interpretation of the
theme is for this particular post. You might have different images, each with a different interpretation. The more the better!
TMT sets up a ToM theme gallery to collect all contributions together. To see the theme entries go to Themes >> Theme of the Month >> Galleries
at the top of the Home Page
Keywords
Every contribution will receive a comment by a member of the team, and your image will then be added to the relevant theme. For this reason, you are requested
to add the key word(s) of the theme to your image title, either as part of the title or in brackets after your title. It helps to identify all contributions.
The theme announcement will guide you with the exact word(s).
Future Themes
Each month's announcement also gives advance notification of the themes that will be coming the following two months. This is to allow members more time to
give the themes some thought and to prepare.
NEW! Voting beginning with the February 2012 Theme!!
We are pleased to announce that all participants (all members who have posted contributions to the theme that month) are allowed to take part in voting for
the images that they feel represent the theme best or are particularly creative. It doesn't have to be the most technically perfect image. It can be whatever
image or note touched you in a particular way, was particularly original or humorous, or maybe got you thinking in a new direction. We ask you to only vote
for other member's images and to exclude your own contributions. We hope you understand that this is in the interest of fairness.
To vote, simply send an email to TOM@photofolia.net and include up to five links to the images of other contributors you liked most. Be sure to send links,
as this makes it much easier for the counting. There is no need for additional text or explanations in your email. Since the theme runs to the end of the month,
please vote on the first or second day of the following month. Votes received after the 2nd cannot be considered, since the tally needs to be done quickly to
include the results in the theme summary (see below).
Summary/Conclusion
At the end of each month, the theme is summarized and the result of the voting is announced. This usually takes place around the 3rd of the new month. To see
the results go to Themes >> Theme of the Month >> Member's Choice at the top of the Home page.
