There was an extremely low tide at 5am and I could walk out to a huge rock that would normally be surrounded by water. The challenge was to find a composition in amongst the variety of sea life. Eventually I chose to utilize the two intersecting diagonal lines from the crevice in the rock and the bull kelp. I did have a polarizer on however it didn't eliminate all of the reflections. |

Hi Phil,
almost missed this one. It seems like artwork. So many details and interesting colors. Normally, I wouldn't go for green in the frame, but in this case, it fits perfectly. Nice shot!
Take good care,

Hi, Phil -
Yes, "still life" is the first thought that came to mind; I think it's that diagonal piece of seaweed that reminds me of those dutch long clay pipes you see in the Flemish/Dutch still lifes.
Nor do the reflections diminish the shot; we expect them in this sort of scene.
Best,
Dan |

Here you show us an interesting and intriguing photo - especially for a landlubber like me. Even in the small version it already is eye-catching. What a diversity of life - it's simply fascinating!

Hello Phil, this is the first time I've seen brown algae used as a still life. It works. You've got a nice composition here with a fine mix of colour, good sharp detail seen throughout.
Thanks, John |

Hello Phil.
Looking at the thumbnail picture I thought it was an abstract picture of the image. It turns out that it's just a good photograph at a high level. Of course, polarizing filter made here his task by removing most of the glare. Initially even I thought it was a photo taken under water.
Great composition, very good light and colors, excellent sharpness.
Have a nice weekend

Howdy Phil,
Attractive tide pool art image. I like the earth tone dominance and the sharp details.
I am a big fan of tide pools, especially searching for sea shells - but only those dead ones, excluding hermit crab inhabitants.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Phil,
Another shot that would also fit the "abstract" category. I actually like the reflections because they add a different hue, almost purple, to the shot. You were right to choose this composition, too - those two intersecting diagonals work really well here.
Aaaaah... that kelp - how often did my paddle get caught in there, and how often did I pull up a whole bunch of this stuff onto my kayak... I've lost count! ;o)
Have a great weekend,
Claudia |
