About this photograph:
On a hike yesterday we met this wonderful butterfly, an European Peacock butterfly - in German Tagpfauenauge. Its Latin name is Inachis io. It has a wingspan of 50 to 55 mm and the butterflies drinks nectar from a wide variety of flowering plants. The European peacock is a long-living butterfly which hibernates in buildings or trees and therefore it often appears already early in spring.

A nice and sunny weekend to all!

Hello Frank, Congratulations on a stunning shot of the butterfly. Sharp and clear with lots of color. However the best thing about your post is that I found out what the name was of those butterflies I saw along Bodensee when I was staying in Bregenz. There were hundreds or maybe more all hanging out on flowers. I can see where the name fits the insect. I would also add that the blooms that the butterfly is resting on give a remarkable effect to the picture. Great Job. Regards. We have gone from 43C to 36C the past 24 hours.

Hi Frank
A lovely splash of colour. Nicely placed in the scene and good DOF considering it was F5.6.

Welcome in the club of macro, Frank.
I did not expect that as soon your portfolio starts to fill up macro photographs. Of course, I am glad of this fact, because our world is also that which we see with the help of glasses (particularly at retirement age and just before the ...).
In Poland it is also called the butterfly peacock. Sometimes it is called the peacock's eye. It's really a beautiful butterfly, fantasy, and coloring actually resembles the tip of peacock feathers.
This picture really pleases the eye more, that the insect is clearly trying to pose to you.
Photo very nice, very grateful to read. Such views can watch for hours.
Today I also ran for the butterflies, but I do not know what effect. I just write it checks the files from the camera.
Have a nice weekend for you and your loved ones.
I wish you a beautiful weather and nice rest

Easy to learn why it´s called Peacock ;)
I specially like the little movement it makes it the right wing.
Some areas in the flower are blown out but it does not invalidades the image at all!
TFS and have a great sunny weekend!
Cheers,

Isabel
