I think this is the first shot on Pf of the pre-Olympic events that have been going on throughout most of Canada for the last three months. The Olympic torch is being carried by hundreds of Canadians through nearly every town in the land. Each torch bearer carries it for 300 meters at which point they light the next torch in the relay. Today was Abbotsford\'s turn to cheer on the torch which will eventually end up at the opening ceremonies in seven days time in Vancouver. This torch bearer was a native chap who elected to wear a symbol of his heritage rather than the classic red mittens that have taken the nation by storm. Good for him. I was fortunate to be very close to two other torch bearers as they handed off to one another but alas only having my 70-200 lens I was too close to get them both in. I may post another shot later. |

Hi, Phil -
Nice documentary shot, and a reminder that the Olympics are starting soon. Your choice of short focus works well.I was not aware that each relay runner lit a new torch; I thought the torch itself was passed from runner to runner. Also interesting is that the torch is going through some residential neighborhoods - nice touch, that!
Best, Dan
PS: I\'m trying out Peter\'s SHIFT+ENTER trick, which should work,

Hi Dan
Thanks for your comments. Each runner also has the opportunity to buy their torch for $350 Cdn. I tried the shift+enter but it doesn\'t work for me.

Hi Phil, this is a very evocative documentary pic. On the compo & tech level I like your almost cinematic format (frame) and the torch bearer is very well placed in the frame. There\'s also a good crispness to be enjoyed and chosing 4,0 for aperture made sure that entire front row is in focus. On the content level I find the people in the black track suites walking along the torch bearer rather siginificant. In this day and a age their function is not cerimonial. Best, Bert (oh and Thanx Peter, the updating of the News could be done in a jiffy now) |

Hi Phil, I already wrote quite the comprehensive critique, but now came someting new up and I want to try it out. If it works it would mean that we would be able to see our text after writing the critique. So, sorry if this looks like nothing interesting to you ;-) OK, I tried it out and it works! Well, you might be asking yourself what the heck is Peter talking about? Easy, when you write your critique you should NOT use \"Enter\" to switch to a new line. Instead use \"Shift + Enter\" and you will switch line without a blank inbetween and you will be able to always see your text once submitted and you also will be able to re-edit your text at any given moment. Got it? Sounds complicated, but once you understood it you will see how easy it actually is. Peter |

Really nice shot! What I like is that you can see in the background the many people watching the event, while in the foreground you can see the runner and the obvious pride he has in carrying the torch. Excellent work! |
