You have to look twice, I think, to find the beauty, listen to this music and you know how I mean it, I cannot explain it otherwise.
Pink Floyd "Great Gig in the Sky" ... HEAR it yourself … This is while flying out leaving over Lake of Zurich ... thank you B. for this.
And a little "about", if you are interested: Yesterday afternoon, me in the back seat for a change with Ueli in my seat instead pushing the pilot to the limits during a check flight (you have to do this regularly, the rules). Ueli was a fighter and test pilot so I fully trust him what he does even if he is 75 years old and still sometimes works as an instructor like in this case. He promised me also to come with us and show and introduce us to some forgotten Alpine airfields within the next weeks so wish me luck ... LOL ... When I told him that I will buy him a coffee he gave me a smile and ordered a glass of white wine instead ... I like this guy, he is on my line, enjoying the good life, tell everyone that this IS a good life but also being serious if it is necessary.

Hey barbara
Boats look like kid toys from the air. And a nice story. I also like the kind of attitude you describe. And the link you gave, my dear!. It's a version I didn't know but this song I can listen for hours, sitted in a soft light, with some kind of nice drinks and by the way flying around the world a lot of times before landing back home :).
have a nice WE.
Kind regards
JMarc

Je ne sais pas si tu écoute également du classique.
Voilà une oeuvre que je suis capable d'écouter en boucle sur une telle photo .
la plus belle version , le plus beau requiem ...
A+

I was once in a Greyhound Bus from Alice Springs to Darwin driving through desert during the night and I listened to this song almost for hours being up all night and sharing the headphones with a friend and we discussed what it meant etc. until the sun came up. This was a crazy ride, believe me.

I've never been much of a Pink Floyd fan, but have to say this track is wonderful.
I love all the patterns in the water, especially as you get near the little yachts and the light starts to hit. I think it's because the boats are diagonally opposed to each other that the wakes from their tacking gives a zigzag impression. The monotone blue and white suits the minimalist composition.
It sounds like fun yesterday!

I hope you found time for the vote...only 2 days left. (I guess you did already, or JMarc would have reminded you ☺)

Incredible night with ten thousands, lots of drugs (not me but lots of trouble around me), and a thunderstorm with lightning in the air, incredible experience, scary and outstanding.baba_flies wrote in 2012/05/05 09:52:54: I voted, this morning :))))

Barbara.
This photo is not for the theme, but it is nonetheless an interesting photo. Boats are real, or are they toys?

Hi Barbara.
well, well, flight lessons with a flavour of photography and what a lovelly photo you bring back.
It's curious that in open sea or lakes, the way I most appreciate photos is this one: minimalistic. Making the contrast between the large water mass and the "tiny" boats, kind of lost in the middle.
You had good eye to compose it with the boats on top leaving them lots of space to go and like this got a nice pattern on water which fills in well that negative space, or empty space.
I also love all those tones on water surface which without a doubt contribute a lot to its success.
Finally the choice of Pink Floyds music fits so well here, specially after reading your note and knowing you were flying above the scene, we can imagine only something monumental as a soundtrack, and what better then them and this particular music?
Well done.
Cheers.
Paulo

hello Barbara
this man has a good philosophy to be happy , it's a good thing to profit of each moment of the life, and us, we can profit of the beautiful view from the air.
I love the simplicity of this picture, with just 2 little boats in the vast ocean. The blue color of the water is superb; and there is an incredible sharpness, I like the patterns given by the waves very much
Nice esperience too, to be in a small plane. with an instructor.Did he teach you to drive the plane?
Kind regards
Pascale

Hallo Barbara,
I watched this picture listening to the music...es war himmlisch...
I love being on the water, near the water, in the water...God only knows what I am doing, living here in Luxemburg, hundreds of kilometers from the nearest beach.
Your photo is superb and will find its way into my favorites, for me to watch ..and..listen from time to time.
Have a nice sunday

Hi Barbara -
Very nice! I especially like the composition. Flying in the Alps must be a real challenge especially in the winter months. I have heard pilots talk about flying the Rockies and some of the challenges getting into places like Aspen, Leadville, etc. Also, how dangerous it is in the winter months getting over or through the mountain passes in different kinds of weather. I have experienced some of the challenges coming back from several mid-winter business trips when the Chinooks are blowing down onto the Front Range, even though I was in a commercial jet I can well imagine the work going on on the flight deck. Well done!

Ciao dear Barbara,
beautiful aerial image characterized by this wonderful turquoise color of the waters of the lake. You have captured and composed this picture so perfect. It 's always a great pleasure to see photos captured by the plane, surely one of the most privileged POV for a photographer. Probably I will begin to fly next Saturday, after the winter break (I do not like flying with the cold, even if the engine performance is better than summer).
Ciao, have a nice week!
Paolo

One is the weather with lots of fog, the other that the grass strip is wet, plus the procedures like heating the engine separetley ... but winter and flying, the landscape is beautiful to see from above ...Sistercosmo (2012/05/06)
Hi Barbara,
Ueli sounds like a man who knows how to have a good time, while he is also a serious, dependable kind of guy. Really, they are the best type of men - the ones who know how to have fun but also stand strong and can do the dishes in the kitchen! :-)
Great image, Barbara and also a great song to accompany it. (That song has a really special meaning for me.) The boats look so small, almost like toys, and I really like that effect of viewing them from the air. Really nice shot!!
Hope all is well! Have a great new week. Mail is waiting. :-)
BIG hugs,
Linda

Hello Barbara,
With images like this one, I can begin to understand more why you and others who like to fly. I can imagine the feeling, incredible, wide open landscape. the lake, the sea, the mountains, whatever it is, I'm sure from the sky, it feels small, miniature houses, in this case boats.
It is incredible to see the lake, so big, feel almost like and oacean from this shot. I never imagine lake zurich to be so big. Again, an incredible shot that show the feeling of flying.

Hi Barbara,
super Perspektive.

Barbara,
I'm not sure my photo-critiquing brain has quite clicked into gear yet. Nevertheless - I do like this one. Simple, minimal - but also beautiful and balanced.
Very nice.

Hello Barbara, Great shot of the lake. I like the climate and colors here. Zurich is frequently having rain when we fly in there. Refreshing to see this bright picture. . As for the pilot, alas, we have dozens of old men flying planes around this retirment community of Arizona. And, many should be grounded. Ha ha. We do have 330 days of sunshinre, so there are lots of planes in the sky and we do have our share of crashes. I am a bit of an infrequent visitor here, so I am trying to catch. Again good view of the lake and the boats. Regards, Roger

Yes maybe some should be on the ground and there are in fact many also watching talking about their adventures sitting in the lobby of the aeroclub. I met MANY of them. Talking about Europe I think we make ourselves "too old" when I compare to the States. In the end, what kind of damage do your really make "falling down" v. a car accident.
