People enjoying the afternoon in front of the National Portrait Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London. Again the partial desaturation. The interesting fact of this process is that while working on the image and due to the time I spent with the brushes, I could observe what each one was doing, their expression and even count them. The curious girl with her camera, the super man, a kid with his ipod, the young and the old couples, the smoking woman, the photographer and so on: It's like an authentic voyeurism :)

Theme of the Month (2012/05/05)
hello carlos
An interesting pp you did here. Is it something that requires a lot of work?
Are you obliged to selected all people individually with the magic tool?.
I like very much the result and it really creates a powerfull entry in the month's theme.
Best regards
JMarc forTMT
As a TMT member I'm trying to remember to remind everyone to vote for their favourite images in April Theme until May the 7th
as a dealine, by sending links to up to 5 of your favourites (NOT including your own ?) by e-mail
to TOM@photofolia.net
For more information see here
I hope you will find the time to vote.

Yes, there is a lot of work on the original file so that the quality of the desaturation will remain. It's not difficult but it takes time. No magic tool, only the brush tool and a mask between the colored and the b&w layers. I need to consider each person (including their hands, hair, all the edges) as an unique element to work with. That's why I could notice their expressions very well :))
Abraço,
Carlos

Hello Carlos.
Excellent justification for the partial desaturation ... we can also see the average photographer to showcase what he wants to show (or prove).
What amazes me is also the work and attention to detail that has to ask. Here the result amazes me ... and gives me desire ...
Would I have noticed people using their mobile phone?
(I am flabbergasted by the number of people using their mobile when you're photographing a crowd-or even a group- that uses this phone!). I intend also to make a post in a series on this topic on PF.
Desaturation as an object of sociological study, why not? :-).
Have a good Sunday.
Pierre.

I remember a previous image where you used this technique. I love the end result but I'm sure I wouldn't have the patience. It is very well done so you must be a very patient man! ☺
It really does allow us to concentrate more on the people and demonstrates just what a magnet this place is for (presumably) tourists. You were lucky with the weather in London.

Many different faces and people to look at and presented very well by your PP. i can imagine that this processing is very time consuming, but the effect that you have at the end is worth it.

Ola Carlos,
A photo full of live and energy, I like very much the pp treatment to make the background b&w, which give the people even more lively and more energy. As the theme is people, this image really emphasize on them.
Even without colors, the background of architecture and sky is in such good quality, I can imagine it being really good both in black and white or colors. Great light as the people enjoying the sun shine. I was here twice and it was both time cloudy and cold.

Hello Carlos, Trying to catchup with all of the pictures. I am a bit of a transient and don't get here every day. As for the picture, I think it is fantastic and also I can see a lot of work here. Great contrast with the building in B & W and the people in their colorful attire. I had PS 7 a long time ago and was getting into layers etc, and then had a break from photography and never got back to much editing etc. I currently use PSE 9 and that only sparingy. i admire your skilll and effort here putting this all together I don't think this area changes from decade to decade. It has been almost 10 years since I was in downtown London. Great presentation. Roger

... I am catching up too (been held up with new photos ...) which I think is a great sign meaning that we have a very nice going upload flow ... I have been returning to this photo several times and I find it really fascinating how you put the "audience" in the center by leaving all the colors. It adds a great and young energy to it like Way mentions it also in his comment. Like you say, fascinating to watch all the different "figures" and funny sometimes how we watch us or what we do with our "free time" when we are a little bored or relaxed like scratching a leg, checking sms messages, holding someone etc. etc. Great pp work and also a fascinating study case ... this is VERY cool ... I hope you found some answers "thinking about life" ... saw your comment to Kath ...

Oi Carlos,
Ricardo

Just a play of colours for all those young people, my friend? Great choice for that grey background to people in colours, it works because of the great weather and the colourful amount of those young people sitting on the stairs. Just like an audience waiting for the entertainer ;-) or you, Carlos?
