This photo was taken from Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby near Vancouver, Canada on a beautiful evening just after sunset.
About this photo: I've been wanting to go take some night shots of Vancouver from Burnaby Mountain for a while now, but it was either raining or too cold. One weekend in February the weather was quite nice and not too cold so I figured we might get a nice sunset and we decided to drive up to Burnaby Mountain for a sunset.
Once I arrived up there I was pleasantly surprised as I saw fog rolling in over English Bay towards downtown Vancouver. I waited until after sunset when the city lights came on to take some shots. This is one of the best ones from the whole bunch. Enjoy!

Some information on Burnaby Mountain: Burnaby is a city which belongs to the Greater Vancouver area and is about 10-15 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Burnaby Mountain is one of the beautiful places to visit in Burnaby and is located near the Simon Fraser University. The views over the mountains, the Burrard Inlet, downtown Vancouver and Indian arm from up here make it such a great place. This is a fairly popular destination for visitors and locals alike. The green hillside offers room to throw a frisbee or send a kite soaring. There is a network of trails which offer a variety of hiking, walking and jogging options. There is also a playground tucked away in the upper hillside.
The Centennial Pavilion area features the Rose Garden, with its vibrant colours in season and a great variety of roses. Nearby is the acclaimed Horizons restaurant and two majestic totem poles, a reminder of the community's proud native heritage. Towering over the distant city are the tall Kamui Mintara (Playground of the Gods) sculptures. The Kamui Mintara is more than a dozen carved poles created by Japanese sculptors Nuburi Toko and his son, Shusei. These impressive sculptures commemorate the goodwill between Burnaby and its sister city, Kushiro, Japan.
Burnaby Mountain is a great place to enjoy in any season as there are always the beautiful views over the city, the mountains, the Burrard Inlet and Indian Arm (a coastal fjord of about 18km/11.25mi long).

Hi Ann,
wow, you really got an amazing atmosphere here! The fog is eerie but the yellow in the sky is just out of this world! I think I need to go to Burnaby Mountain! Excellent shot - that long exposure makes the fog look like cotton. Great work!
Take good care!

Landscape is not my specialty, though. Here in photofolia, I'm taking "basic lessons" of this type of photography laughs ....
But a picture does justice to the title, congratulations.

Hello Ann!
Your point of view is fantastic and you did a kind of futuristic photo. The amazing situation creates the real sensation of an Ocean of Fog. Its great to see how you caught it with the night lights already on. Excellent work!
Best regards,
Zeca

Hallo Ann!
I never would like to live in a big city - but this sight really is breathtaking. For me especially the contrast between the very angular conturs of the city and the wavering fog on the sea here is stunning - as the colours of the morning sky are. This veil of fog in the city is a lovely detail here. A photo, a place really to marvel ... but as I said ... ;-)
Greetings from a small German city! ;-))

Very nice blue hour shot, or better said nice golden hour shot.
This view is original thanks to the rolling clouds and the golden tones on background. It is unusual for urban shot at evening and it really gives a special mood to this shot.
Yves.

Great shot Ann. I wish I lived closer to be able to drive to Burnaby Mountain for a shot like this. Well Abbotsford is not that far but that damn bridge.... Anyway this is very well executed.

Hi Ann,
This really a very special and beautiful atmosphere, it is like seeing a city up in the sky. So surreal, like something we see in a fantasy or scifi movies...Beuatiful color of the sunset of golden light with the fog and cloud below the sky and the city light in the foreground just adds another dimension to this image.
Good quality and beautiful composition.
