The quiet and secluded beach on the southern Kenyan coast was dotted with dead trees. These beautiful natural sculptures became a favorite subject and I photographed them at various times of day. This shot was taken quite early in the morning just as the tide had turned.
First the tide rushes in
Plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea
And the sea is very still once more

Hello Rosemary!
As I saw the thumb of your photo, I saw the tree like a hand. I like the textures on the tree, and always love the sculptures that ocean creates on woods we found by the sea. You did a great work with the lights and that details on the foam in the foreground are beautiful as well. Excellent work!
Best regards,
Zeca

Pieces of driftwood like this make excellent subjects and foregrounds for wider shots. Your low POV works really well so part of the driftwood is set against the sky. It seems that you captured the small wave just on the turn. There seems to be a sheen and texture to the water probably thanks to the low morning light. Another good contribution to the theme.
I love the quotation, which fits perfectly.

Hello Rosemary,
I really love the series of your photos from this part of Kenya, if I should ever have a chance to go back to Kenya, I will definately consider this place. All the photos you show of this place are just incredibly beautiful. Perhaps is the right time of year and day, the light is soft that you you very nice enen lgiht, the tree trunk seem to almost be the landmark, without it, it would just be any other beach. Another beautiful shot, and one that fit the theme of motion as the wave gently rushing in and out of the beautiful sandy beach.
Way also for TMT and Me

Hello Rosemary,
Wow, the low POV works extremely well here. The light management is top. I wish could get up that early too.
Regards
John

A beautiful sculpture made by nature, I like this sculpture in my private collection, if it were possible, alias are several pieces that form a marvelous set.
I suggest it as a photo in black and white, would be more dramatic
I really liked, sensitive capture

Hi Rosemary
I love finding something like this. The shapes are truly beautiful and to me they look like they are yearning to ge back into the water. Nice timing with the nwater as well. I am liking your work more and more. We go to the west coast of Vancouver Island every two years or so and I would always photograph one big tree with its roots until last time. It has now disappeared either due to very high water or a log salvager.

... what a great foreground and I can easly understand that you returned more than once to this place trying out different light conditions finding out how the light worked with this material. I really like the overcast skies in this one, it adds something desolate in my eyes, not too sad and yet it has another meaning other than with a dark blue sky. I also like that the water nearly reaches you and it gives us this feeling that one fine morning this piece of wood will be gone, washed out into the sea. Excellent work, I really like this a lot. Have a wonderful new week, Barbara.

Hi, Rosemary -
Nice, moody composition - driftwood on a deserted beach with vaguely directionless light. Creates a bit of a disturbing image here. Very nice work.

Hello, Rosemary!
The more I look to this image the more I find it classy and sophisticated.
The thoughtful simplicity of the composition and the colors - the cold light blue
of the water and the sky and the earthy tones of the branches... excellent match.
the textures are bonuses.
Best regards,
Isabel

Hi Rosemary,
sorry I'm late, but it is still a really wonderful image and a great poem to go with it. What I really love here is the smooth water rushing in to the shore. It really is a very moody image - you should include that in the category. The tree is dead but the water is alive. Wonderful contrast. A really great photo!
Hope you're doing well! See you around!
