Sunset taken at Depoe Bay along the Oregon Coast in the USA.
About this photo: We went for a trip to Oregon at the end of July where we stayed for about 9 days, 6 at the Coast and 2 in Portland. Sadly enough we didn't have very good weather during our stay at the Oregon Coast. Most days it was cloudy and we had some rain as well. But at least it was dry most of the time and we got to visit some nice places. One evening during our stay at Depoe Bay we finally got to see a sunset! It was the one and only sunset of our stay at the Oregon Coast, so I am glad I took advantage of it to take some photos. The colours were so beautiful and the waves were gently crashing into the rocky shoreline.

Some information on Depoe Bay, Oregon, USA: I don't really know too much about this place and I can't find too much on it either. It seems like it's a smaller place with beautiful views and much more. Depoe Bay is supposed to have the smallest harbour in the world. Whether that's a fact or just something the town is pushing, I don't know. I do know that it's good place for whale watching, especially during the migration season. We stayed at a nice town home with a view of the ocean and I swear that I saw a whale spouting when we were having breakfast one morning. Of course once I got my camera ready to go I never saw it again...isn't that how it goes most of the time? We had a great time here and would love to return some day!

Hi Ann
Another great water shot. The colours of the sky are so rich and saturated and nicely reflected in the water.

Theme of the Month (2011/08/11)
This is beautiful. The sky is gorgeous, but I like the reflected colour on the sea even more. I also like how you have captured some wave motion; even some splashes on the shoreline.
We spent some time in Oregon in 2008 as part of a month-long road trip from Seattle to Denver, but didn't get to the coast unfortunately.
A good entry into this month's theme.

Hi Ann,
I love how the sun sits in the bowl of that rock .. and the sense of wind in the trees (that are wonderfully sharp even with that feeling) .. beautiful tone .. thoughtful darkness .

Hallo Ann!
A breathtaking scenery and photo as well! The effect of the one second exposure for the rendering of the sea simply is gorgeous. You have had a really dramatic sky that evening - and you caught it wonderfully. A photo to marvel ...

Hi Ann,
Wow, what a wonderful sunset sky. It must have been very nice to catch it. I know it can be so cloudy and cold up in Oregon, even in the summer. The wind along makes it feel like your in the middle of winter, the fog and cloud can ruin the day completely. You must be very luck for the sun to finally peaks through at this hour and really painted the sky with wonderful colors. The Whole scene is just so drammatic with moody atmosphere. Great photo quality as always. Congrats.

Hi Ann.
Always this subtle play with the absence of great light. Shades of the sea are perfect in their obscurity.
A dim light you show perfect showcase.
Have a good day.

Hi Ann,
The wonderful detail and colors of the sky and clouds are well framed by the pinsharp detail of the rocky point and trees while the long shutter speed softens the sea and enhances the reflected colors. All the really good photographers use tripods.

Hello Ann -
Wow, this is a nice sunset and I really like the saturation and the sun star. Depoe Bay, one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast. When we traveled through in July 2007 we saw whales in the bay spouting frequently but what I really remember was the seamanship necessary to exit and enter the harbor. The day was windy and the surf was rather high and treacherous but the Coast Guard made it look simple. One of the fishermen though, had to make several attempts at an entrance as each time he approached the waves did something different. What a show! This is almost a tropical like scene you have presented. Well done!

Hi Ann,
What a beautiful sunset photo! Not only has the sky a dramatic and colourful look, but also the sea with its various shades of colours is rendered excellently. The composition is very fine and the sun star is an icing on the cake. Thanks for the interesting note too. Great photo quality.

Evocative and very romantic! Clouds and colours in the sky are so fine but I like also the black silhouette of the promontory and the trees and of course the sea.
Well captured and framed,

Hi Ann
At least you are taking this wonderful shot back home.
If it was not for the land and the sun, sea and sky would have meshed together in their festival of colors and movement.
Lucky not to have a cloud right in front of the sun....
Humm, no NDgrad and a negative correction.....no overexposure end a darrker foreground, the result is very good, very realistic
Well done

Hi Anne,
All good things come to those who wait! Often at the very end of a trip the photo gods bless you with a splendid scene like this. The colors in the sky are amazing and the exposure is perfect.
Love the blending of blue and gold in the sky and those late day beams gently touching the rock coast.
Warm Regards, Tom
