I had took my mother to make an examination in an hospital in this town. She went inside and stayed there for some hours and during this time I walked in the town and I came back to the hospital and waited.
While I was seated in the reception hall I saw this old lady who was waiting its turn, there are more people at my back but she looks lonely here. She was in the company of her daughter who was asking informations in the reception desk, located few meters behind me.
An image took with my cellphone.
We can build a full story only with this shot. It was a good subject for a B&W and the composition is well balanced.
A good example of the grammar of photo: only selecting what is inside the frame is changing the meaning of the shot.
With only the lady in frame, the feeling of loneliness is there.
Big topic with our ageing society. With how you composed it this becomes a very realistic scenario by leaving her nearly in the dark with only her alone sitting there with her upper back slightly bended. She looks like she has a heavy load on her shoulders. It could also be that this woman is even a little glad to go to the hospital hopeing to receive some attention. This could be too, right. A very touching image somehow. Even if we have "a lot of friends" (what ever this means), in the very end we sit there a little alone too and are glad to be treated nicely by the staff. I know from someone who mostly treats old patients that this is the thing that bothers him the most "seeing lonelyness".
A wonderful combination of photo and note! Already the picture tells a story - an a bit sad one. Yes, getting older and more and more in need of care isn't fun at all ... Black/white works very well here.
A thought-provoking contribution ...
Greetings from wet, cool and grey Germany!
A very thought provoking image and a great choice to presented in black and white. it is very obvious the image evoke sense of sadness and loneliness. It is so heavy, we couldn't even see the face or her expression, but that feeling is so strong it just grab you and hold on I can't even let it go. That is the power of photography sometimes. A very emotional piece, taken with keen sensitivity. I would never have thought to take a photo of it.
I feel she was in prison with the many iron bars and their reflections on the shiny ground; the feeling is enhanced also by the B&W treatment

A very moody image Jorge and maybe not only lonely but tension and apprehension I conjured up here the way she holds her shoulders high. You were very brave to take this and the black and white was the right choice to add to the melancholy
