Nea Kameni island is a kind of cover above a volcano. Its last explosion was in the 1950's, anyway it was mild if compared with a big one 3,500 years ago, the largest seen by mankind and that probably created the legend about Atlantida. In the far background we can see the slopes of the caldera and the capital of island, Fira.

And there is another cell phone addict ... LOL ... in one hand the mobile, in the other the water bottle :-) I would probably fall into the crater ending up in the newspaper "tourist lost her life while watching TV on her mobile". Tourism @ its best, hehe. I haven't seen Santorini from this location. Looks pretty scary the way the town is built from this side. It's a great spot out here, something I wasn't aware of.
it is probable it will work soon, but it will be difficult to be a tremendous explosion like that in the Minoan times. if you make a hole of 10 centimeters in the ground you will be able to feel how hot it is.
