Yesterday I have had a wonderful excursion with our friend Gunnar and his wife to Upper Middle Rhine valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beside the more than 40 castles and castle ruins in this part of Rhine valley the landscape simply is gorgeous and sometimes even breathtaking. Everywhere one can find cozy little winegrowers' towns and villages and the different lookout points offer fascinating views.
Here you can see the horseshoe bend of Rhine river near the town Boppard (please see map view where I marked my point of view). In German it is called Bopparder Hamm. This term is derived from the Roman word „hamus“ which means „hook“.
Right hand in foreground you can see the town Boppard, in background the village Kamp-Bornhofen, in the middle of the panorama the village Filsen and left hand in background the village Osterspai - all winegrowers' communities. The grape varieties which are grown here are Riesling, Rivaner and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Already in 4th century the Romans grew wine here. Here I add a tasty sample for all of you ;-))
I add a large panorama version, a stitch of 5 vertical photos. Please click at the above photo or at the red rectangle under it.
A great shot from the Middle Rhine Valley. I am quite sure that Gunnar has loved the sights. Your pano is, as usual, a masterpiece. I have been here twice with the Najade. Actually we navigated the Rhine valley from Niffer to Rotterdam. The stretch of the river between Bingen and Koblenz is very stressing, especially with a boat like we had, with only one motor.
Have a nice sunday
What a lovely part of the Rhine this is. We were only a stone's throw away in 2012 but missed this huge meander in the river. The direction of the light was in your favour. I really like the curved area of shade which frames the view. The pano is beautiful, showing lots of excellent detail.
Cher ami Frank,
A wonderful view and a great panorama from a most perfect POV. The LV is a joy for the eyes on a large screen with all the fine details. You seemed to have a fine day too.
Thanks for the map view too.
Greetings from still warmish, but soon again colder and rainy Finland,
