Brighton Beach near Melbourne, Australia. Nice beach, beautiful sea, and what are the young people doing? do they look at the sea, do they talk to each other? No, everyone is looking at his/her mobile.
Built well over a century ago in response to very Victorian ideas of morality and seaside bathing, the bathing boxes remain almost unchanged. All retain classic Victorian architectural features with timber framing, weatherboards and corrugated iron roofs, though they also bear the hallmarks of individual licencees' artistic and colourful embellishments. They look simple but they are very expensive!
I recently posted an image showing beach huts. They are indeed expensive to buy and you're not allowed to stay in them overnight.
Sad sign of the times that people cannot leave their phones alone, no matter how beautiful their surroundings.
Oh yes this could easily be in England, the beach huts traveld to Australia, no doubt :-) There is three people with their cell phones and one with a camera. It seems difficult to hold still and suck in the atmosphere without doing anything. But then I think maybe doing nothing is not natural, not sure, maybe we have to do something. But the cell phone has definitely reached a strange level and to some the life takes place in this tiny screen (there is plenty of old folks with the same addiction, by the way). It has reached a shocking level to me just recently. A woman with a smaller child both were looking at a large bird that stood in the river ... so the mother made a small movie with her cell and showed it to the child while actually the bird was still standing there in the river. Obviously to the mother her mini movie was more attractive. Observing what took place in the real, in the nature, had no meaning anymore once the movie was in the box. Probably she sent it out to all her friends and they had to make a comment/like :-)
Beautiful image for the ToM, and so funny you caught this moment, people are at the beach but not enjoying the beach but so focus on the what's going on in the cell phone. the modern day illness, we are all too attach to our cell phone and i-pad...
The other side of the world - same, same. These beach huts could adorn any number of British beaches.
I see someone in the background has a camera in his hand rather than his phone.
A bright colorful entry for the theme
