Travel photos seem to be the best source of images for this ToM, probably because that is when we are most likely to visit local industries and cultural craft activities. Taking the lead from Elaine I searched through my Burma images for this one.
Close to Inle Lake are lots of small industrial ventures. This is a boat building yard and these two guys are making a boat from teak. Teak seems to be the wood of choice in Burma because there is a big supply in the jungles there. This is a huge saw, he is balancing on a narrow beam of wood and they are working in bare feet. I don't want to think about what could go wrong!
Shan state is featuring well in this months them :)
That is an enormous saw, but needed for the huge teak trunks. I'm trying to read what he has on his t-shirt, Popeye I think, I wonder if he knows who he is.
Another interesting entry for the theme, (I have lots more but out of my quota)
A good daily life image that fit also for this month's ToM. I had to go out and take some photos for the company I work for in a job site, and I have to wear a safety vest, hard hat and boots because the street were not yet paved, I was annoyed that I had to do all that, I see nothing that can potentially harm me, but that is the rule because it is a construction site.
Here he is using this gigantic saw and he is bare foot....but that is the way of life out there...
He has a good balance, standing there is one thing but holding this huge thing at the same time, this is like walking on the tightrope. Yes a nightmare if he gets hurt, we do not want to know. When we were little, it was almost the same. No helmets, no good shoes, some even drank a bottle of beer in the summer time during a break etc. Seeing beer bottles on construction sights was completely normal. Meanwhile this is all no longer allowed. Safetey comes first. The huge saw blade is really great, very good "tool" for the TOM :-)
Well done, it fits the theme perfectly and I love boats. It's also a very well done image. The framing includes all the important details. The big saw and bare feet create tension. The bamboo of the roof and growing by the house are very attractive against the blue sky. The light, while difficult, creates great chiaroscuro and the facial detail is great. HLJ P
This certainly is different kind of wooden boat building from what I have seen here. And as noted by others it looks dangerous with that huge saw and bare feet. The photo is nicely composed and you have controlled the light perfectly, shadows are well visible and there are no burned out areas. Another excellent contribution to the theme.
