This photo was taken on the ridge of the low mountain range Rothaargebirge (about 650 meters a.s.l) here in southern Westphalia on a totally grey, dark, foggy and cold day. Nevertheless, wearing the right clothing, we enjoyed hiking there - surrounded by omnipresent hoarfrost and in absolute silence - very much. We somehow had the feeling to be the only creatures in this world, an enchanting and a bit mysterious world.
Well, one kilometer from here we got a wonderful coffee … ;-)
A very fine composition in black & white! I hardly believe you when you say it is in colour... The different trees provide interesting parts of the pattern. Even if this is an older picture, do you still have snow here?
Buin (2018/01/03 16:04:49): No, Gunnar. We are drowning in rain, rain, rain ...
An image of textures here. I was sure it must be colour as I know your dislike of B&W as a rule. I might have been tempted to eliminate the branch top left, but the more I look at the image the more I can see it has a purpose in the composition.
Buin (2018/01/03 19:04:23): I thought about it quite a time ... ;-)
Talk about primevil, cold, and maybe a little spooky. I am sure it was a nice walk hearing only your feet crunching on the frosted ground. I like the branch at the top as it fills in the featureless sky and gives some depth to the image. Without the branch the image might look a little flat and lose its impact.
