Thousands of Colosseum images, why bother to take more? Still as we were walking back to our apartment, the evening sun warmed this ancient building. Little processing except the Raw conversion and a crop. The Ci is my attempt at something different.
"I like it" for Complementery Image which is unusual and very comfortably down to earth point of view. The main is more what we are used to. Hard to say what I would have done, never been there and the prospect of going for a visit is rather slim.
I love the play of Red and Gray as i as a rule like dark gray sky. The only thing that bother me here is that the whole thing is leaning to the right. it does not make positive impression on me. I would rather see it straight. But that is my preference.

These iconic sights can be really difficult to come away with something interesting and different. I think you did get beyond the iconic shot of the Colosseum. I like the late evening light (I assume before the vapor lights came on) and the evening light contrasts nicely with the sky. Well done.
I really don't see that much a difference with Chris' WS.
Pars pro toto ... only some arches and one knows what is shown here. The warm light of the vening sun "does a good job" here. The sidielight also was advantageous to bring out all the structures of these old walls.
Greetings to you both from unbearable sticky and hot Germany!
With just a little detail of the big Colosseum in the image and yet everybody knows what your image is all about . That is exactly what makes iconic places iconic. Everybody identifies this image of being the Colosseum right away!
The warm red colors of the last light of the day against the dark grey sky is fantastic, although I have to say that the CI is also an excellent one!
plimrn (2018/07/04 19:46:14): It is almost too iconic to be worthwhile, but the theme gave me the courage to post this one
Beautiful colours Patricia! The ci is also a winner, but I prefer the colours in the main and the pano. The ws is a matter of taste of course. I think I might have done the same thing, but since I have not seen the original I would not stake my money on it.
Kindest regards for both f you
I know what you mean, there are some place that just been photographed so much and we see it all over the internet beautiful photos of it, but we still we have to take some for ourselves, it is our versions and our memories too keep with us...Here I love the warm sunset light, painted the Colosseum with the warm brick red tone and what a nice contrast the cool gray sky. I like the Ci with the olive tree, it adds flavor but still very recognizable as the famous Colosseum image.
The last rays of sun illuminates this iconic walls beautifully against the dark clouds. a perfect fit for the theme. The CI is very attractive as well and it indeed is a bit different approach to show Colosseum.
