I saw this well known symbol of Amnesty International in one of the side chapels of Ely Cathedral, but I'm not too sure of the exact significance of it being there. All I have been able to find out is that there is a branch of Amnesty International in Ely, so there is obviously a connection.
The barbed wire is a perfect fit for this month's theme.
"It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness" (old Chinese proverb)
A very impressive and meaningful photo motif - especially in our days! ... and a great contribution to our theme of September. The blurred background makes this symbol wonderfully stand out.
Greetings from late summer in Westphalia!
So good, Kath, it fits the TOM perfectly. What a great sign against inhumanity, a strong reminder. There is so much going on in this world, it would be impossible to mention all the regions that ignore the rules. Big shame. Somehow you would think that we all moved further but it is the contrary. Despite the barbed wire around the candle, the warm light and the background color add a warm element, a sign of hope maybe.
Excellent image with significant meaning as well for the ToM. The barbed wire looks like it would be hard to make into a spiral shape and stay up like that and I would be not want to carry it around with the sharp points.
It's a hard choice between the sharpness of the barbed wire and the sharpness of the monkey tree. The detail of the flame and the sharpness of the barbed wire and the value of amnesty international all make the choice even more difficult. HLJ, Pat
