This is Elvis Presley's 1963 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Touring Limousine on display at Graceland. Why does it belong in this month's theme? Because it is black and its tires have whitewalls. Or, you can say it is black and the car in front of it is white.
In 1963, Elvis bought himself a brand new Rolls-Royce Phantom V which was custom fitted with a variety of gadgets including a telephone, air conditioning and a Blaupunkt Koln radio.
Initially, the car was purchased in Midnight Blue, but after his motherís chickens pecked at the paintwork, the King had the car resprayed to white. Most people would have just shot the birds but Elvis just chose to have the car repainted four or five times.
People who need such a car for their self-representation, for their self-esteem, actually are regrettable ...
Your photo however goes very well with our theme of January. The few colourful "dots" in the picture are nice additional eye-catchers. An inventive contribution!
Greetings from wet, grey and cool Germany!
very nice image of a very impressive car. I know Frank thinks people who have things like this are pitiable, but Elvis had to do something with his money, right? :) And you're right - most people would have shot the chickens, so that's a big plus point for the man.
