Last Thursday we had a sunny day and we went for a walk to the beach in Soukka village in Espoo. We noticed during the Walk that a thick fog was approaching from the sea. When we arrived to the shore, the fog was hiding the distant lands. I liked the light conditions caused by the run rays penetrating through the fog and I took a few photos.
The main photo shows also two hobbies of our Finns. The man in the photo is fishing though a hole cut into the ice. The tent like thing is a shelter for ice swimmers, who swim in a big hole in the ice. A water pump is used to keep the water free of ice.
The CI is a photo taken 10 minutes earlier. It was interesting to notice how the light changed, when the fog drifted along the shore.
Hurray, a swim in the cold ice-y waters? This sounds as exotic as a tropical beach - haha. Both images are really great transporting the winter into our cosy homes. I really would love to see this with my eyes, I have never seen a fisherman sitting in front of a hole waiting for the catch of the day. Always a pleasure to work with fog. Excellent two images.
I like the main a lot : but I'm sure I'll never be finnish like : swin an icy water ; not for me. I prefer caraïbean sea temperatures :). 14°c is the minimum I can support to swin in.
Very nicely done anyway.
ellelloo (2019/02/05 13:13:47): Swimming in icy water is not for me either, although that activity is relatively popular here. However, not everyone does it, not even nearly it. I have done it only once, but I was then 15 years old. 🌝
What an interesting contribution - a great combination of photos and note. I go swimming very often and though actually I'm not squeamish this Finnish method of swimming is nothing for me. Brrr! ;-)
One hardly can believe that the photos were taken at the sea at the shore. There's a fantastic impression of wideness in the landscape. I like especially that you in spite of the harsh and diffuse light were able to show nuances even in the clouds. This is winter as it should be ...
Greetings from wet, grey and only cool Westphalia!

You managed the light perfectly in this stunning winter scene. I also love the delicate details of tree and the smoothness of the snow. I appreciate your explanation of the tent. Still I'm very sure, I wouldn't be swimming there. I see we agree on that activity...photography is a LOT more fun! An icy swim almost makes ice fishing attractive. I also like that touch of blue in the Ci while the tracks show the depth of the snow. We finally got a snow storm that is still here and the skiing yesterday was great!! Pat
