What a threat : the landscape is gorgeous with great sky ang light contrasts!.
You note is exactly what came to my mind while admiring the post and its pano version, and before reading it.
A window to another world no longer existing. Fascinating image not only because of its wonderful landscape but also because of this slice of history. It always gives me goose bumps when I find such a home built into the rocks high up somewhere with no idea how they ever have gotten there not to imagine how they ever built it. Even small kids or old folks must have walked around this place. Great find. Love the big dark cloud that makes it sort of more intimate.
I really like the lighting and weather conditions of the scene. The Navajo sandstone in this light sure is beautiful. I have often wondered, as many schoolars have, why the ancients left such beautiful country. Did the weather conditions change, like what is happening now, were the waring tribes just a bit too much for their simple agrarian life, or was there disease and famine and they were just wiped out. Who knows.......
What a fine photo and a breathtaking landscape, which is enhanced by the patch of blue sky and interesting cloud formations. And top of this this is a view to another world in the past.
