Had he won the lottery of life, he´d be having a blast in Utah right now, for sure! But who knows - maybe he´s there right now having a good laugh and a good beer together with his brother, his buddy Jeff and doggie Freddy.

Fulvio Ferraris, a true full-blooded Italian guy living in Amsterdam, had the ticket to Vegas in his hands, was scheduled to leave on the 8th of August 2010 to spend four weeks in his "home" - the Southwest of USA. Instead of flying, he had to undergo surgery for throat cancer. Chemo and radiation followed, but he was in good spirits. He was a fighter. In November 2010, the prognosis was good and Fulvio had re-scheduled his trip for early 2011.

"Oh that the desert were my dwelling place,
With only one fair spirit for my minster.
That I might forget the human race,
And hating no one, love her only."
- Lord Byron

On December 14th, 2010, Fulvio passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, leaving a huge gap in our lives.

On that day, we lost a true and honest friend, a no-bullshit guy with a great sense of humor, a guy who valued honesty more than diplomacy. A guy who touched our lives and hearts in a very special way.

Fulvio, you are dearly missed! No one can replace you. Rest in peace, our special friend. We hope that your buddy, Freddy the doggie, is in loving hands. You will always have a moron-free place in our hearts! :-)

In his "Slanting Roofs" post, Fulvio wrote:

And now my comrades are all gone,
Naught remains to toast.
They have left me here in my misery,
like some poor wandering ghost.

"I don´t have the faintest idea whose words these are... but I love them. They are printed on the "Bodie State Historic Park" front page. That´s the booklet you can buy for two dollars at the entrance. Which you definitely should, as it´s chock full of great info."

It’s a wonderful thought to see him hanging out in the desert, enjoying the view, loving the solitude, being at home. And he’s got a beer in his backpack, no doubt about it.

He once wrote to Barbara:
“So many times in my daily life I drop a conversation right in the middle, as I realize the counterpart will never ever understand a single molecule of what I´m trying to say. We have simply forgotten how to live our dreams. Not me, not you and another few exceptions, most certainly NOT in rural and southwestern USA, but everybody else seems to be totally brainwashed and incapable to even conceive the meaning of the word dreaming...”

In your memory and honor, Fulvio, we promise that we will always do our best to keep trying to live our dreams.

Fulvio’s intro as he penned it himself:

1) Born and raised in Turin, Italy, living in Amsterdam and moving the hell out to Utah the moment I win the lottery.

2) I travel first and take pictures second.

3) There is more to a day than just dawn and sunset.

4) Taking pictures is always better than talking about taking pictures.

5) I wonder where all this wisdom comes from...
