It was some times I was thinking to visit Reflection Canyon on Lake Powell and to take some shots of it.
It was sport to reach this isolated place and it was also sport to spend the night there with a lot of wind and some little rain.
At dawn in the morning, I had to keep the hands on the tripod all the time and almost to lay down to resist to the wind.
This place is a magical landscape but needs some efforts to be reached: you need to be autonomous in water and food.
Thanks to Peter to have insured I got some shots of it.
So you just had another adventure with Peter!
This is a stunning image; no wonder this location was on your list. It sounds like quite an adventure to get there and stay there, but nothing you two intrepid explorers couldn't deal with.
I love how the rocks curl round and almost fit together. The other thing that makes this image something special is the limited colour palette. Mainly two colours which seem to be out of the same tonal range.
Between the amazing array of clouds in the sky and the rock formations erupting from the dark water you have produced a very dramatic compositiom...it sounds like it was a very dramatic time as well
Wow, you managed some impressive colour here Yves in your blue hour. I knew that peter was arrngin a trip while I would be in Arizona but I only had a few days and had to be content with where by rental car would take me (and other tourists), knowing the places to go and being equipped as peter is is certainly worth it.
I love the smooth shapes of the rocks which seem as if they would fit together like a jigsaw if you just gave them a gentle push.
Yes a sport :-) I absolutely agree: Photography is a sport, it can keep you breathless for different reasons from running before the sunset is gone or trying to keep the camera dry from rain or a long hike for THE view. But I find it pays out and we can see an amazing result in this image with a wonderful view and a fantastic sky. It's also the story telling that makes an image, even if it is non-verbal. Great spot here with harmonic inlets.
I think your efforts paid out, you got at least one attractive image out of your efforts, as I am sure you collected more. I like the tones of violet/pink against the blue waters. Watch out, there are a few Dementors headed your way!
