Somewhere in the Southeast corner of Utah lays a little town with the name of Hanksville. The town consists of two gas stations, two restaurants and some houses. The area is isolated and is surrounded by barren landscape. The beauty is stark and typical of eroded land. In the background you can see the Henry Mountains with a touch of snow. Yes, it was a cold morning, but it was the first morning of a 2 ½ week photo tour with my Dutch buddy.
Image crafted from 10 vertical frames. Look at the panorama version to have a full impression of this wonderful landscape bathed in the dawn light.

With Henk in Hänksville, I assume it might be THIS Dutch guy :-) Fantastic image, Peter, I love the rosé in the horizon and yes indeed there is some snow left on the top of the mountains which might add a surprise element "what, snow in the desert". Super spot for this image with the right amount of elevation and flater parts which gives a good visual balance. I like Hanksville a lot for its dusty feel and yes gas, food, some houses, a camping spot ... and a mostly empty airfield that was built for, hm, I don't know. I hope you had a great trip, curious where else it lead you in the big wild west.
Stunning pano Peter. The rendering of the detail and texture in the foreground rocks is magnificent. I couldn't even begin to guess at the weight of the full size image with 10 frames stitched. Love the colours too.
They should change the name of the town to Henksville! 😂
Hanksville? Know it well as it is the gateway to Canyonlands and northern reaches of Lake Powell. I really love the pastel light in the sky and the Henry Mtns. in the BG. For me, I would have preferred a touch more of that beautiful sky so the Henry's do not look so crowded.
Back in my university days I remember reading a Geomorphology treatise on the Henry Mountains by GK Gilbert. Interesting studies of landscape building and erosion that have stayed with me all these years.
Absolument magique. Is it a stitch of 10 pictures?. If yes the stitch is absolutely perfect.
This desolated area is so stunning and the pano really allows us to look at every détails.
This is a really beautiful image of superb quality and it's incredibly emotionally moving. It feels like freedom and thankfulness and wonder. In the LV, I feel like I'm right there. And how I wish I could have been! That would have been a real party. ;)
Gorgeous light, spectacular details. Did I say "wow" yet? Love it!
It feels good to be back here on PF. Hugs & kisses,
The details that we see in the LV are incredible, I feel like I am standing on the edge looking out, so real. The PP and stitch work seemless.
We are so fortunate that you share your work with us here.
Ten vertical frames! It gives waaaay more detail than could be captured in any single image. It really shows the scope of this land. The timing is also perfect with the light turning the sky to rosy gold and warming the right side while still allowing excellent detail in the shadowed area. HLJ, P
The Rockies and surrounds is a great place for imagery. I'm presently on an 8 week swing from Monument Valley through to Jasper in Canada. So many photo opportunities it's crazy. Your image is awesome. Thanks for sharing,
The LV is just stunning in its amazingly fine details and textures. 10 vertical frames! You always find the best light to shoot your photos. Also here. The photo and also the landscape definitely deserve the "wow".
