The herons are nesting again and there is always some drama going on in the rookery. This smaller bird is new at the mating game and the larger bird on the right appeared to be quite upset at his presence. They bickered for quite a while. This was taken in the late afternoon as this is the best time to get some warm light on the birds.
The light here is awesome Phil, picking out the gold tones against the dark sky. It looks like a tough balancing act for the pair, I am surprised to see them on such a thin part of the branch. Great photography.
This is great, you got the two "war birds" just beautifully and you can see them fighting about the nesting rights - haha. The light is fantastic, all seems bathed in blue but the trees have a wonderful warm glow besides. Excellent wildlife image.

Thanks for the comments. The right time for these shots is about 5-6pm if the setting sun is visible. The BG is dark as it is a mountainside that is in shadow. The contrast is really nice with the setting sun on the birds. Of course a little birdie drama is always good for a story.
