Last fall Joanne and I visited Bode again when visiting Mono Lake, California. Since moving back to California I visited Bodie State Historical Park about six times and it is getting harder to find different images so I have begun to look to portray Bodie in different compositions and presentations. I posted this truck last November from the other side and in B&W to emphasize the grunginess and age of the vehicle. This scene is my attempt to find something different with a much photographed subject. This is from a garage window on the adjacent parcel and shot in the original color..
yes, Bode and this truck are much photographed but you really got a unique angle on it with this image and it's just perfect for the theme. I really like it. The b&w is nicely moody, but this main image leads in well and captures the light beautifully. It made me think of Fulvio, as I so often do. I know that he would have loved this image. I chose his Bodie image as his epitaph so many years ago.
"And now my comrades are all gone,
Naught remains to toast.
They have left me here in my misery,
like some poor wandering ghost."
A very good one for the ToM. I think I have a very similar shot from here that I posted in B&W. I love it from this angle, unfortunately when I was here, there was group from a photography tour, and later I ran into them again at sunset in Mono Lake, Grrrrrr so annoying and they would leave when the light was perfect I was force to take some shot with them in it and had to clone them out....
Anyway, I love to come back here again this summer I think, we'll do a camping trip up this way with the kids, will see how that will go.
I love the CI in black and white and the strong shadow works really well and the contrast of light,
Superb frame with the open window and the roof tiles to direct the viewer eyes on the abandonned house and old truck. the yellow grass adds some nostalgia to this deserted area.
The CI is great too but more common.
Well Done!! The framing is very effective, it really makes the truck POP!....as does the golden grass. Of course I didn't realize it was a window until I read the notes but when I did , I thought, "Of course," and sent it straight to my choices! I had the same, "Aha," with the helicopter door.
