Sitting quietly at home suddenly I heard a shout:"Grandpa, grandpa, come out, quickly!" Granddaughter was afraid the creature will run away.
So, we have captured it on electronic film.
I do not know what it is. Well, it is a caterpillar, for sure, but of what, who knows. I am not going to look it up. I can hardly distinguish which end of it is which but it looks very nice.
I like it so may you.
PS. EXIF data did not copy, sorry. Entering manually. Focal length 4 mm, 25 in 35 mm standard.
OOOps, uploaded bad dimension photo, lost sharpness and EXIF, sorry.
I can understand very well that your granddaughter was excited when seeing this little colourful hairy guy. It's the caterpillar of the spotted tussock moth (lophocampa maculata) and it looks a bit like a bottle brush ;-) Oh my, now I see that you already mentioned its name in your note. The creativity of nature always again amazing isn't it?! A beautiful snapshot!
Greetings to you all from hot and very sticky Germany - especially to the little natural scientist!
plimrn (2019/09/21 21:33:20): Thank you for the name, Frank
I don't know how I missed the excellent Macro, guess I was focused on making sure I commented the TOM before the end of the month. The detail is excellent and the colors appear very natural. I think I may have seen the moth around here but never the caterpilar. I love learning new things!
