On an early morning walk today I saw this beautiful autumnal colouring – just some minutes before it began to rain again. Temperature was 5°C and everywhere in nature one could feel that autumn is here.
The gorgeous red bushes are Amelanchiers, also known as shadbush od shadwood (in German: Felsenbirne).
I add a large version.
Wow, look at that red bush. There is no way you could walk by this and not capture an image. I am glad it has finally cooled off you guys on the Continent. Autumn looks like it has a good start. I miss the autumn -- there are only two seasons in California, summer and winter.
That red really stands out in the green and the detail is even nicer in the large view. I think we're ahead of you in autumn color. Some of the trees by the river in town are nearly done. I'm hoping to get into town one day in the very early morning since I finally got my fall planting done. I'm trying a new effort this fall since the seeds I plant don't seem to have time to grow in my short growing season. I read that spreading seeds after the ground is frozen but before the snow and then covering them with mulch gives them a head start. Guess I'll also try seed starts in the green house.
It sounds that your weather is like ours- When I recently have gone for a walk, it has happened more than once that it has started to rain suddenly. I bet the colouring is even more gorgeous at the moment in this place. The red trees are a nice focal point in this photo.
